The Bundesliga team TSG Hoffenheim and GreenCycle have joined forces for a wide-ranging collaboration. Through the PreZero sales brand, GreenCycle is providing intensive support to the football club with a resource-saving approach to waste management. As a clear sign of the cooperation, which can be seen for miles around, the TSG stadium has therefore been renamed the PreZero Arena.
The strategic partnership between PreZero and TSG Hoffenheim was forged against the backdrop of the Bundesliga club’s future strategy “TSG ist Bewegung” (“TSG is movement”). As part of this strategy, TSG has set itself ambitious sustainability targets, which also incorporate environmental protection and waste avoidance. The cooperation between the Bundesliga club and the waste disposal service provider therefore goes far beyond financial support as a stadium sponsor. Together, the partners have set themselves the goal of making the PreZero Arena a symbol of sustainability and resource efficiency. “With our approach of tracking material flows, analysing waste and rethinking recycling, we reconcile ecology and economy,” explains Dietmar Böhm, Managing Director of GreenCycle.
The first joint project underlines this approach: the grass clippings from the TSG pitches are collected on site, dried and then processed into the players’ autograph cards in a paper mill. The production process uses significantly less water and chemicals, thereby reducing the impact on the environment. The next step will be to set up a waste separation system in the stadium and test alternatives to the existing disposable beverage cups.
The improvements implemented by PreZero promote the ecological activities of Hoffenheim’s future strategy “TSG ist Bewegung” (“TSG is movement”). This also encompasses other key focal points: innovation, employees and players, youth and fans, as well as Africa. The goal of the Bundesliga club is to develop the expertise it has acquired from the sport off the pitch and combine its own development with societal advancement.
